Title: Criticalities and opportunities for teachers' career development during their first in-service years

Abstract: This paper analyzes the professional development of the teacher in Italy during its most critical phase, i.e. between initial training and induction. By analyzing the data that emerge from recent international research, we will show the link between professional development and competence exploitation according to a perspective which focusses on teachers' empowerment and work engagement.

Abstract: Il saggio analizza lo sviluppo professionale dell'insegnante nella fase più critica in Italia ovvero quella che intercorre tra la formazione iniziale e l'assunzione in ruolo. Analizzando i dati che emergono dalle recenti ricerche internazionali, si affronta il legame tra sviluppo professionale e valorizzazione delle competenze in una prospettiva di empowerment e work engagement del docente.
